It is rare that Artists Circle Fine Art gets to answer the challenge of commissioning a nine foot tall carpenter, by Bo Bartlett. We have commissioned over-life scale figures in the past, notably for the Richmond Convention Center. We have also had different research assignments, such as finding eight posthumous Victorian portrait subjects to satisfy a wide ethnic and gender criteria, but never a nine foot tall man!
The United Brotherhood of Carpenters’ Headquarters at 101 Constitution Avenue is a beautiful building of rhythmic geometry and exterior light, sculpted in great planes of glass, wood, and stone. Artists Circle Fine Art was approached by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters to help them find an art solution for five areas in the building. The most difficult area was a three story wall at the north end of the lobby. After several review meetings, it was decided that a monumental figurative image would be best suited for capturing the client’s purpose.
